Making a home for women and children
1. 24/7 – Helping women and children in crisis
The Good Samaritan Inn is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Here, we support women and children with a safe, temporary home in which they have the opportunity to rest and recover before their next steps. During their stay with us, guests are provided with safe and secure accommodation, a holistic model of care, and 24 hour staffing by professionals who provide specialist support.
Good Samaritan Inn has partnered with Adventure Works to explore the application of Bush Adventure Therapy with women and children recovering from family violence. The REGENERATE program involves outdoor adventure and counselling services run by staff trained in narrative therapy, family therapy and other counselling approaches, as well as outdoor education and leadership.
3. Youth Engagement
Our Youth Engagement Program is a new project we are running thanks to the generosity of Westpac Bank. Skilled advocates attend primary and secondary schools to talk openly and honestly about family violence, prevention and where to go for help.
4. Children’s Program
At the Good Samaritan Inn, we view children as being guests in their own right. Children are supported by an experienced children’s worker, planned art therapy sessions, plus activities that support the mother/child bond that can often be strained due to the trauma of family violence.
5. Volunteers and Students
Our volunteer program is made up of over 50 active volunteers who contribute nearly 3500 hours of service every year. Our volunteers and students participate in many different capacities, drawing on their skills and interests to provide everything from hands-on client support, to advocacy, meals, and program development.
